A rich baritenor with a comedic sensibility, he has adored musicals ever since he was two years old, dancing in his living room to Cats on VHS.
Most notably, he has played Motel Kamzoil in the Broadway national tour of Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Tony-winner Bartlett Sher, for over 350 performances. He recently tackled the role again at A.C.T. of Connecticut.
He is also a TV/film actor. He recently starred in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC) and Food That Built America (History Channel).
On top of performing, Daniel loves to write. His personal essays and reviews have been published in New Voices Magazine. He also recently completed his first novel, The Emperor’s Favorite, set in Ancient Rome. Daniel is actively looking for literary representation. You can read a short excerpt of his novel here. Right now, he is writing a play about immigrants living in the Lower East Side during the late 1920s. You can read the first scene of that play, Beshert, here!
Daniel graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in History, magna cum laude. He is a professional test-prep tutor, an avid listener of disco and R&B music, and a Diet Coke fanatic.
Miracle of Miracles has always struck me as one of the Fiddler score’s few weak links, but Daniel Kushner, as the timid Motel the tailor, turns it into something special.
Striking tenor Daniel Kushner is marvelously meek as shy tailor Motel, delivering one of the most endearing, epiphanous and lyric-driven renditions of Miracle of Miracles I have heard.
As timid Motel the tailor…Daniel Kushner amusingly charts the classic transformation from mouse to man. His climactic self-discovery and self-congratulation provides the perfect segue into his rapturous Miracle of Miracles.
